West Bengal
In West Bengal the instrument is a Rent Agreement (Lease Deed), the parties are called Lessor and Lessee, and the tenancy is read against the West Bengal Premises Tenancy Act, 1997.
How the cost is worked out
For a lease of up to 1 year, stamp duty is 0.5% of the total rent plus deposit; the rate rises for longer terms.
