In Tripura the instrument is a Rent Agreement (Lease Deed), the parties are called Lessor and Lessee, and the tenancy is read against the Tripura Buildings (Lease and Rent Control) Act, 1975.
Under Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 a lease of immovable property from year to year, or for a term exceeding 11 months, must be compulsorily registered. Shorter terms may be registered voluntarily.
Compulsory from 12 months
Stamp duty is 1% of (total rent for the whole term + the refundable security deposit).
Minimum stamp duty: ₹100
