In Ladakh the instrument is a Rent Agreement (Lease Deed), the parties are called Lessor and Lessee, and the tenancy is read against the J&K Houses and Shops Rent Control Act as adapted to Ladakh.
Under Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 a lease of immovable property from year to year, or for a term exceeding 11 months, must be compulsorily registered. Shorter terms may be registered voluntarily.
Compulsory from 12 months
Stamp duty is 1.5% of (total rent for the whole term + the refundable security deposit).
Minimum stamp duty: ₹100
