In Rajasthan the instrument is a Rent Agreement (Lease Deed), the parties are called Lessor and Lessee, and the tenancy is read against the Rajasthan Rent Control Act, 2001 read with the Rajasthan Stamp Act, 1998.
Under Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 a lease of immovable property from year to year, or for a term exceeding 11 months, must be compulsorily registered. Shorter terms may be registered voluntarily.
Compulsory from 12 months
For a lease of up to 1 year, stamp duty is 2% of the total rent reserved plus deposit; slabs apply for longer terms.
Minimum stamp duty: ₹100
