Karnataka

In Karnataka the instrument is a Rent Agreement (Lease Deed), the parties are called Lessor and Lessee, and the tenancy is read against the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999 read with the Karnataka Stamp Act, 1957 (Art. 30).

Registration mandate

Registration is compulsory once the term reaches 12 months. Registration fee is 1% of the same consideration, minimum Rs. 200/-.

Article 30: stamp duty is 0.5% of (total rent for the term + the security deposit), subject to a minimum of Rs. 200/-.
